The Power of Diabetic Socks
Most of the patients diagnosed with diabetes must have come across many websites that promote special diabetic socks intended for the overall health of ones feet. There is however, a great need for people to understand if there is a difference between those and the regular cotton socks.
People with diabetes might have feet problems either because of neuropathy (nerve damage) which might lead to amputation and because of poor circulation that reduces the ability of the body to respond and heal quickly when one gets an injury. Regular 100% cotton socks are said to be too tight on the feet hence reducing circulation and its coarse seems can rub the feet too firmly causing calluses and blisters to emerge.
Made from nylon, acrylic, cotton, and elastic fibers diabetic socks design maximize comfort for the wearer while keeping the feet cool and dry from moisture by transferring it from the foot outwards. In times of extreme moisture or sweat, diabetic socks are of great advantage because they have the provision of better pulling away wetness hence leaving the feet dry and reducing the ability of fungi to grow. Since diabetic patients have circulation problems and neuropathy, when subjected to injuries, the recovery process is usually very slow, hence they need to take great care of themselves so that they do not add salt to injuries they already have. A good example will be wearing the wrong type of sock on already bruised feet; this will make the bruise to become a wound that will be unbearable. If the situation becomes very serious, amputation becomes the last solution to the problem and research has it that patients who have undergone the first amputation do not take long (3 years) before they undergo a second amputation and in the process live for five years (80%) before they die.
